I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed this week! School has gotten crazy and the curriculum has started picking up the pace. It can be very hard to keep up with if you do not have the proper tools to conquer this semester!
Since I am in the same boat as most of you reading this, I decided to share 3 ways to eliminate stress—especially if you’re in college—and get more work done! These tips will work for everyone! Student or not, we can all learn something new!
1. DON’T PROCRASTINATE:
Personally, it doesn’t take me long to write an essay or to study for a test. But one thing I have a problem with is motivation. Once I get in work mode, I can go for hours. The struggle is just getting there. Sometimes I think about the amount of work I have to do and I get worried and overwhelmed and it keeps me from starting. Ever met a perfectionist with no motivation? If you are that person, trust me. I feel you. But some things are too important to do a half-good job. Put your best foot forward! Tell yourself, “I’ll do 10 minutes of work and then take a break.” If you keep it simple and start small, it’ll help you to procrastinate less and you’ll also find that you don’t even need a break because you’re so focused on your work that you’d rather finish it then waste any time “resting.” *Being in your phone or watching Netflix...(I’m DEF guilty of that one🤭)
Staring your work ahead of time will help eliminate that last minute “I should have done this last week” stress.
2. FREE TIME IS NOT FREE TIME TO RELAX, BUT FREE TIME TO GET AHEAD:
Last week I found myself with A TON of free time. I didn’t have anything to turn in so for the first couple days of the week, I relaxed. I sat on my phone, watched TV and thought, “yeah I’ve got this college thing under control.” But what you don’t know is that the next week, I had an essay, a speech, and a test. Unfortunately I didn’t start preparing until that Thursday... Which was about 5 days before anything was due, it if you’re in college like me or you have gone through college, you know that is NOT enough time. So do yourself a favor, if you find yourself with “free time,” USE IT WISELY!
3. TAKE SOME TIME TO TREAT YOURSELF:
Okay, so I know that seems counterproductive. Like, the best way to get things done is to relax. Well in a way it’s true. I’ve found that when I spend time on myself I feel much better. When I actually take the time to treat myself, working is less frustrating because I’ve already done something fun. This is also something you should do AFTER you’re done working on whatever task. Don’t be stingy with rewarding yourself for your hard work and dedication! Sometimes, it’s okay to have that extra piece of cake, or to watch bing watch your favorite show. Even to buy that dress that you can “go without.” You’ve done a good job and you’ve earned it, so pat yourself on the back and keep moving forward!
These are just a few things that work for me! If you have any other tips, be sure to let me know and I’ll make another blog post about it! I hope these help you eliminate stress and get more work done!
with love, JJ
